Studies have shown that companies which feature gender-diversity do better than those who don’t. This is even more true when it comes to being ethnically diverse. The belief is that companies that feature diversity or more open to listening to new idea versus those companies that are dominated by white males. However, even despite these finding, very few women become top executives at S&P 500 corporations.
Susan McGalla has had a lot of success in her career and she has overcome the headwinds that a woman faces in the business world. She says that her dad, a football coach, treated her the same as her brothers. She didn’t get cut any slack because she was a girl and when she wanted something she had to earn it. She has used this philosophy successfully during her professional career to advance into the top executive positions at a number of companies.
When Susan McGalla first joined American Eagle Outfitters every executive at the corporation was a male. Despite this her hard work and determination led to her being named president of the company. She was also a self-employed business consultant for a number of years, another industry that males dominate in. Despite that her company, P3 Executive Consulting, was very successful with her at the helm.
Susan McGalla is now working as an executive in the National Football League, which of course is very male-dominated. She is a vice president of the Pittsburg Steelers and is responsible for business strategy as well as creative development.
Susan McGalla is a graduate of Mount Union College. She graduated in 1986 and has a bachelor’s degree in marketing. She grew up in a household where they were huge fans of the Pittsburg Steelers so working for the team is something she had always wanted to do.
